Lakes of the Clouds

I was back on the trail by 9:00 and made it 11.2 miles to the Lakes of the Clouds Hut by 5:00. Today I summited Mounts Webster, Jackson, Pierce, and Franklin. It was a gorgeous, clear, sunny day with a lot of ridge walking and fantastic views. There was some scrambling in the beginning but the trail was surprisingly easy considering I was going uphill all day. I have been getting closer and closer to Mount Washington and will go over it in the morning.

My foot felt much better today after resting and icing it yesterday. It was still a little sore, but nothing too bad, although I did notice it more towards the end of my hike. I didn’t tape my toe today either and that felt just fine.

The Lakes of the Clouds Hut has work for stay, but it also has a small room with six bunks called the Dungeon that thru hikers can pay $10 to stay in instead of doing work for stay. It’s very dungeon-like but I chose to stay in there. This hut will actually close in two days for the winter but the Dungeon remains open as an emergency shelter.

I have been on the trail for six months today, and when I got to the hut, I was offered whiskey from one of the guests so I did a celebratory shot.

  1. If anyone can tackle Mt. Washington, it’s you. Hoping you can see for miles.

  2. Congrats on 6 months! So the big question is: how long is your beard? just messing. Love seeing those double digit miles! Get it!

  3. Can’t wait to have a shot of whiskey with you when you come home!
